Town of Greenwich Fire Department Blasting Permit Policy

As per Connecticut State Regulations, the following shall apply.

1. Blasters will obtain a permit for each blasting job. Said permit shall be good for thirty days only.

2. Blasters shall have their state license and BUD number with them before any Town permit will be issued.

3. Blasters must have the address where the blasting operation is to take place, i.e. house number or closest house number, etc.

4. Blasters shall carry their medical card and all state required documents at all times.

5. No blasters shall cause any vehicle carrying any quantity of explosives or caps to be brought into any populated area of the Town of Greenwich unless in direct route to the blasting site. No stops are to be made with a loaded magazine for any purpose. Vehicles must proceed directly to the blasting site.

6. Only enough explosives and caps for use in any one day, up to 200 pounds, and up to 1,000 caps may be transported into Greenwich unless certified magazine approved by this office is on the job site.

7. No vehicle transporting any quantity of explosives shall be left unattended at any time, and when attended, the attendant must be a licensed blaster.

8. Blasters shall call the Greenwich Fire Department dispatch (622-3959) daily to report blasting activity that day, before operations begin.

9. Upon directive of this office, seismographs will be installed in order for blasting operations to take place.

10. Neighbors in the immediate area shall be notified of blasting operations and a pre-blast survey may be required to be offered to all neighbors within 1,000 feet of a job site.
