The Fire Suppression Division, headed up by Deputy Chief William "Mike" Puterbaugh Jr., is the fire suppression arm of the Greenwich Fire Department. This division is responsible for providing a whole range of services such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Fire Suppression & Emergency Rescue through:
    • Emergency Fire Fighting Response
    • Emergency Rescue Operations
    • Vehicle Extrication
    • First Aid & Medical Response
    • Continual Training in latest Fire & Rescue Techniques
  • Specialized Confined Space Rescue Team
  • Specialized Trench Rescue Team
  • Specialized Water Rescue Team
  • Public Fire Education
  • Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team
  • Fire Incident Data Collection
  • Fire Pre Planning

The suppression division is made up of both career and volunteer fire fighting forces. They are assigned to a total of 8 fire stations located throughout the Town of Greenwich (seven in-town & one just over the state line in adjacent Banksville, NY). There are currently 100 career fire fighters, assigned to four shifts, and approximately 100 "entry tag certified" volunteer fire fighters.
